Better Days Ahead with COVID-19 vaccines at the KCNSC

The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) achieved a key milestone in the battle against COVID-19 when the facility provided an on-site vaccination clinic open to all Kansas City employees. A host of entities - including the NNSA, Department of Defense, Honeywell vendor Concentra, and various departments within KCNSC – collaborated to pull off the event, which proved to be a rousing success.

The timeline from the moment KCNSC received notification vaccine doses were secured to administration of the first shot at the clinic measured less than a week. The KCNSC facilitated first dose COVID-19 vaccines over a four-day period. Coupled with the employees who have reported receiving at least the first dose from a community resource, the KCNSC is well on its way to being vaccinated against COVID-19.

For more than one year, the KCNSC COVID-19 Task Force has met daily to assess our environment and make real-time decisions to maintain the proper focus on our national security mission, while ensuring the safety and well-being of a workforce of more than 5,500 employees. The KCNSC had been pursuing multiple paths to obtaining vaccines for its employees since December 2020, collaborating with state agencies, NNSA and corporate Honeywell to execute vaccine response plans and distribution

From check-in to check-out, the process took approximately 20 minutes per employee. As employees left the clinic, they were given a “Better Days Ahead” token to promote continued adherence to COVID-19 protocols to KCNSC employees. The campaign reminds employees that the combination of getting vaccinated in addition to following CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from COVID-19.
