NNSA’s Office of Defense Programs recognizes KCNSC excellence
Supporting America’s security mission through innovation and delivering results
The National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Defense Programs recognized 12 teams and one outstanding individual from the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) with Defense Programs Awards of Excellence (DPAEs) on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The celebration highlighted the people and projects that demonstrate KCNSC’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and high quality manufacturing in support of the nation’s security mission.
Held at KCNSC’s main campus, the ceremony brought together employees, leaders, and partners to honor efforts that improve production, modernize capabilities, and advance technologies essential to national security. These accomplishments reflect not only technical excellence, but also the teamwork and dedication that drive KCNSC’s contributions to the Nuclear Security Enterprise.
Dave Beck, NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs, presented plaques and certificates to the honorees and shared his appreciation for their work.
“The demands of our mission are clear: act with urgency, strengthen deterrence, and deliver with precision,” Beck said. “KCNSC employees exemplify these principles and drive the capabilities that safeguard our nation.”
Established in 1982, the Defense Programs Award of Excellence recognizes individual and team achievements in quality, productivity, cost savings, safety, and creativity within NNSA’s programs. For KCNSC, the awards highlight a decades long tradition of engineering expertise, production leadership, and continuous improvement.
This year’s honorees delivered standout achievements across advanced manufacturing, modernization, digital innovation, and engineering. Their work included developing new additive manufacturing approaches, enhancing laser welding processes, and improving machining and materials capabilities that support future missions. Many of these efforts streamline production, shorten development cycles, and elevate the performance and reliability of critical components.
Beyond the technical achievements, the awards celebrate the collaborative spirit that defines KCNSC. Engineers, technicians, program managers, and support teams worked together to solve complex challenges, introduce new tools and technologies, and refine processes that help the organization meet growing mission needs.
KCNSC’s ongoing contributions play a key role in shaping the future of the Nuclear Security Enterprise. By investing in modernization, advancing digital capabilities, and championing innovative solutions, KCNSC helps ensure the nation is prepared to meet evolving requirements for years to come.
These accomplishments showcase KCNSC at its best: collaborative, innovative, and focused on delivering results that matter—today and for the future.
