Virtual Everything, Even Recruitment

As we all know, the pandemic turned many of our gatherings, recreations and even work environments into a virtual experience - the same is to be said for university recruitment. Campuses are looking very different than years past and as a result, universities are eliminating in-person recruitment events and replacing them with virtual career fairs.

Luckily, our teams at the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) were able to pivot to virtual recruitment, ensuring we’re able to still get in front of students and continue to hire top-talent. KCNSC recruits at major universities across the country with a focus on engineering and business schools. KCNSC also participates in career fairs that focus on Veterans and Minority Serving Institution Partnership Program (MSIPP) recruitment. In September, KCNSC will be visible at 19 virtual university career fairs and will be on track to attend 30 this year.

“We’re learning as we go in this new virtual environment,” Lakeesha Scott, Senior Staffing Specialist said. “We’re just really grateful there’s still a way to connect with students and spread the word that we’re hiring!”

The KCNSC recruitment teams have been able to build an audience through similar tactics you would use to ensure attendance at in-person events with university promotion and on social media channels. Plus, there are advantages to this new type of recruitment. With virtual events, we have the chance to connect with students from more schools so not only are we increasing our brand awareness among college students, but by removing physical barriers, we are greatly expanding our reach of talented candidates.

Recruitment is a big part of our business priorities so responding to a virtual recruitment strategy was crucial. “We’re excited to continue to grow our workforce and plan on adding hundreds of employees over the next year,” Joseph Hegeman, Sr. Talent Acquisition Manager stated. “We will be leveraging social media, online interviews, chats and online virtual platforms in collaboration with many Universities and Diversity Career Events to broaden our reach to more students and deliver the talent the business needs to achieve our mission.”
