New machine helps prepare next generation in manufacturing

As the contractor for the Kansas City National Security Campus, Honeywell is always looking for creative ways to prepare the future workforce for a career in STEM and manufacturing. Honeywell’s outreach program recently provided a grant to the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) technology program to purchase a new 5-axis CNC machine.

 The state-of-the-art equipment is similar to the types of machines used in modern manufacturing and could help students transition to jobs more quickly after graduation. Students demonstrated the capabilities of the machine, providing them with education and a hands-on approach to help the technology seem less intimidating.   Helen Rutherford, machining student at KCKCC said, “It looked very complicated to me the first time I saw it but once you start to get a feel for it, it becomes simple very quickly.”

 In Kansas City, Honeywell is a major champion of workforce development efforts with a strong focus on manufacturing.
