Honeywell FM&T Receives Industry Recognition for Quality Excellence in its Operation of the Kansas City National Security Campus

Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) announced it has received the 2022 Quality Excellence Award presented by Honeywell Aerospace for significant improvements in quality performance, enabled by a quality-focused culture and leadership engagement.  Honeywell FM&T manages and operates the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

“This recognition is testimony on how we embrace continuous improvement and a culture of quality across our entire organization,” said Eric Wollerman, President of Honeywell FM&T. “Our people are passionate about our national security mission and their commitment to precision and excellence is unparalleled.”

KCNSC produces over 80% of all non-nuclear components in support of U.S. nuclear deterrence programs. Wollerman added that the company’s culture of quality enables the delivery of safe and reliable products that meet or exceed customer quality expectations, making the KCNSC a trusted partner across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).

The 2022 Honeywell Aerospace Excellence in Quality Award is based on exceptional parts per million (PPM), with a performance of 207 against the annual target of under 300.  In addition to commercially recognized metrics like PPM, KCNSC also measures “escape ratios” that are specific to its enterprise to minimize the impact of defective products being delivered to its customers. In its fiscal year, which ended on September 30, Honeywell FM&T executed 76% better than the scorecard target for escape-to -customer sites ratio.

“This has been the result of everyone coming together in a concerted effort to enhance our quality while continuing to deliver product to our customers.  It wasn’t just the Quality organization working to make this happen. It was all of us stepping up to drive these improvements,” added Dylan Plemons, Honeywell FM&T’s Vice President of Integrated Supply Chain.

This year, the KNCSC and Honeywell FM&T gained additional recognition for its advanced manufacturing capabilities.  In April, IndustryWeek announced the Kansas City National Security Campus, managed by Honeywell FM&T, was one of its 2022 Best Plants Finalists.  The award is the magazine’s annual salute to manufacturing excellence in North America with plants “that demonstrate superior practices and performances, as well as a devotion to continuous improvement.”
