Tech Trek NM brings camp experience to teens

Unfortunately, like many camps, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Tech Trek New Mexico camp, was postponed this summer due to COVID-19. Despite the postponement, it didn’t stop camp organizers, including KCNSC Lead Project Manager Kim Linder, from helping to bring some of the camp experience to those who signed up to attend.

The camp which is co-sponsored by KCNSC contractor, Honeywell, provides eighth-grade girls with female role models in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) along with hands-on problem-solving experiences to help girls see their futures in STEM while having nonstop fun.
After the camp was postponed, Kim and the camp organizers teamed up to collect materials and create problem-solving exercises that were sent to the campers to be completed from their homes. The campers received the items on June 13, which coincided with date the camp was scheduled.

All campers are nominated to attend by math and science teachers across the state with only 60 students selected.
