NNSA's Defense Programs Office Recognizes KCNSC Teams

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) recognized 13 teams comprising of more than 100 employees from the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) with Defense Programs Awards of Excellence on Tuesday, Jan. 10.  During the ceremony held at the KCNSC main campus, U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Stacy Jo Huser, NNSA’s Principal Assistant Deputy Administrator for Military Application, congratulated the team representatives and recognized their achievements by presenting team plaques and team member award certificates.  

“I am always glad to visit our national laboratories, plants and sites,” said Brig. Gen. Huser.  “It is an honor to represent the Defense Programs Office and present these awards today…and meet the people who are making our nuclear security enterprise successful.”

Established in 1982, the Defense Programs Award of Excellence annually recognizes individual and team contributions that constitute significant achievements in quality, productivity, cost savings, safety, or creativity in support of NNSA’s nuclear weapon programs and the Nation’s Stockpile Stewardship Program.

Of the 13 awards presented, three were further awarded “Exceptional Achievement” merit acknowledging accomplishments in promoting and further advancing national security objectives.  These Defense Programs Exceptional Achievement Awards of Excellence signify accomplishments resulting in an extensive, unique, unusual, remarkable, exceptional, and/or unexpected contribution to the Defense Programs mission.

               Joint Radar Module Laminate Printed Wiring Board Delamination Tiger Team (2019 Award)

               B61 Trajectory Stronglink Team (2019 Award)

               Adaptation of PT3698 to UA8298 Centrifuge Tester Team (2019 Award)

               W80-4 Nightwatch Product Realization Team (2020 Award)

               W80 Trajectory Sensing Signal Generator Tester Team (2020 Award)

               New Product Introduction Team (2020 Award)

               Classified Skype Video Tele-Conference Project Team (2020 Award - Exceptional Achievement)

               Contractor Acquisition University Team (2021 Award)

               B61 Coded Switch Team (2021 Award)

               Nuclear Grade Steel Materials Team (2021 Award)

               KCNSC Polymer Enclave Team (2021 Award – Exceptional Achievement)

               KCNSC Special Materials Team (2021 Award – Exceptional Achievement)

“There is truly something special going on here in Kansas City,” added Brig. Gen. Huser.  “I hope that you all appreciate it… you can sense it, feel it, and hear it when you’re at this site.”

This ceremony allowed for the large gathering of more than 100 KCNSC employees, a first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic with the awards presented spanning 2019 through 2020.

Team members from across the organization congratulated the award recipients and enjoyed some light refreshments following the official ceremony prior to returning to work to continue developing and delivering quality products and services to advance our nuclear deterrent in defense of our Nation.
