Kansas City National Security Campus' New Mexico Operations Awarded the 2021 Health Safety Environment and Facilities Excellence Award

ALBUQUERQUE, NM- Honeywell Aerospace recently announced that the Kansas City National Security Campus’, New Mexico Operations (KCNSC NMO), managed by Honeywell FM&T, was one of 13 sites operating under the Aerospace umbrella to earn the company’s 2021 Health Safety Environment and Facilities (HSE&F) Excellence Award. The award recognized sites that met or exceeded a number of metrics that are established in the Honeywell Aerospace Annual Operating Plan (AOP), and honors locations whose leadership and engaged employees have strengthened, improved and sustained their HS&E processes to achieve extraordinary performance.

KCNSC NMO garnered an “Exemplary Performance” score for the criteria set forth by the AOP in 2021. A highlight of NMO’s assessment was for the fact that the site did not have any Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable injuries in 2021.

“Our mission is critical to national security, but the only way to fulfill that mission is through our employees,” said Ryan Matthews, Acting Site Leader at NMO. “It is vital that everyone on our team is safe, healthy and able to return to work to meet the deliverables that our country depends on. All of our team members have made a big effort in establishing a great HSE&F culture, and making sure the work we do is done in a safe and responsible manner. There was a lot of time and effort put in on that front over the last year and it’s great to see those efforts being recognized.”

The level of excellence the nearly 400 NMO employees achieved didn’t happen by accident. Many steps were taken to help the site evaluate the areas needing improvement, as well as enacting new protocols and controls to elevate its HS&E operation. The NMO HS&E team conducted a “Safety Stand Down,” which allows each department leaders to meet with their teams to determine weak points and action items that could be taken to limit the risk of an incident.

“To have no injuries and no recordable incidents at a site this size is just a testament to the diligence and safe practices that every one of the employees here contributed to in 2021,” Matthews said. “It’s really an award that should be shared by everyone at this site because everyone played a part in it.”
