A Passion for Service: Shannon Muller Earns Volunteer of the Year Award

In late 2021, Shannon Muller, Sr. Value Stream Manager at the Kansas City National Security Campus’ New Mexico Operations (NMO) managed by Honeywell FM&T, was named the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year.

“I was very surprised and honored when I learned I had been selected to receive this award,” Shannon said. “I get so much joy and gratification from the work my team and I do in helping the emerging leaders of Rio Rancho give back to their community.”

Shannon, who has been at NMO for nearly eight years, has spent those same eight years volunteering with Leadership Sandoval. She supports the organization in a variety of ways, including coordinating service projects for nonprofits, developing project teams to fundraise for various community initiatives and more.

“[Shannon] has played a key role in leading, directing and organizing our Leadership Sandoval program, which is recognized as one of the best leadership programs in the state,” said Jerry Schalow, President and CEO of the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce during December’s awards ceremony. “Leadership Sandoval has a lot of moving pieces and elements that require a strong leader to manage this 10-month program. Leadership Sandoval builds leaders in our community and Shannon Muller is the definition of leadership.”

Shannon and her team have helped tackle a variety of projects, including building sand volleyball courts, painting homes and businesses, working in food pantries, volunteering in schools, as well as building greenhouses and animal shelters.
