The NNSA and Honeywell are proud of their 70-year history partnership. Since 1949, both organizations have worked together to provide excellent jobs supporting a great mission in addition to serving as a strong community partner in Kansas City and Albuquerque.
Explore our history through this timeline.
During the first six decades, we supported the national security mission as the Kansas City Plant at the Bannister Federal Complex. As our mission grew, so did we. At the height of the Cold War in the 1980s, we had 8,000 employees in Kansas City. In the 1990s, added operations in Albuquerque, New Mexico to support the NNSA mission.
In 2014, Honeywell successfully orchestrated one of the largest U.S. industrial moves to the Kansas City National Security Campus, a high-tech facility that was built for the manufacturing needs of tomorrow.
The modern campus, located 7 miles south of the original facility, specializes in science-based and 3D printing, and has more than 1.5 million square feet of secure manufacturing, laboratory and warehouse space.
The campus reflects the NNSA’s commitment to sustainability. As one of the only certified LEED Gold manufacturing facilities in the U.S., the award-winning campus meets strict environmental responsibility standards and has innovative space management features.
Since moving to the KCNSC, Honeywell has decreased energy consumption by more than 50 percent and reduced operating costs by more than $150 million a year.
