New Mexico Operations
New Mexico Operations (NMO), a division of the Kansas City National Security Campus, is a state-of-the-art engineering, applied science and manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
NMO was founded in 1964 as part of the U.S. Atmospheric Nuclear Testing Readiness program and joined Allied Signal’s Kansas City Division – which would later become the Kansas City National Security Campus – thirty years later.
The acquisition of NMO added to KCNSC’s extensive skills mix and the site’s 350+ employees now produce a wide array of national security products, components and government services for the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
NMO’s Primary Missions
NMO's diverse portfolio offers critical security services across the complex. We play an important role in the safe and secure transport of government-owned special nuclear materials and serve the Office of Secure Transportation and the Office of Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation.
NMO refurbishes and repairs a fleet of Safeguards Transporter (SGT) semi-trailers. Federal agents use the vault-like vehicles to safely transport nuclear materials for the NNSA and the Department of Defense (DOD).
To prepare for the next generation of secure transportation, KCNSC’s NMO's team has partnered with Sandia National Laboratories to design and produce the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT).
The NMO team is committed to preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide. Their expertise includes depot and logistics support, exercise planning, engineering, procurement and training development.
The deployment site maintains facilities and equipment depots across the country, and our on-call field support services include:
• Deployment and mission assistance
• Training exercise development support
• Highly complex tool production and equipment maintenance
NMO's broad suite of capabilities, equipment and expertise support rapid prototyping, development, and production for numerous partners and customers. Our cross-disciplinary team provides early collaboration to our design agency partners enabling increased capacity for early iterations of development and manufacturing of non-nuclear components for evolving weapon designs in a cost-efficient and high-quality manner.
Commitment to Community
KCNSC proudly invests nearly $100,000 into the Albuquerque community each year through academic scholarship programs and mission-focused corporate donations.
