Research and Development

Research & Development graphicWhen your mission is to ensure the National Nuclear Security Administration stays one step ahead, you’re always thinking one step ahead. When you’re charged with ensuring the security, safety and reliability of our country’s nuclear deterrent, you can’t sit still.

That’s why the Kansas City National Security Campus team is always pushing tomorrow’s boundaries – today.

We invest a portion of our budget every year into research and development. Our R&D efforts center on designing the next wave of technologies and focus on six Centers of Excellence:

  • Electrical products
  • Manufacturing process technologies
  • Materials
  • Mechanical products
  • Simulation and modeling
  • Testing and measurement engineering

We collaborate with the academic and business communities to understand what’s possible and what’s next. KCNSC engineers are always asking “What if?” and “Why not?” and “How can we?”

Our Technology Organization consists of not only Centers of Excellence, but Systems Engineering and the Material Sciences Division, designed to research, develop, and implement cutting edge, science-based manufacturing technologies.
