STEMM celebration pairs scholars with mentors
Honeywell offers incredible opportunities to help students build high tech, rewarding and high-paying careers in advanced manufacturing. At this year’s STEMM Education Celebration, we awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to local teens and introduced award recipients to their Honeywell mentors to support them through their journey.
The scholarship and mentorship program has grown to 30 participants in Kansas City and Albuquerque and represents both the HOPE Scholarship (Honeywell Opportunity for Prosperity through Education) and Black Achievers Society Engineering Scholarship.
We are adding an extra “M” to traditional STEM education to highlight the need for manufacturing skills. The future is bright for young people who choose this path. At Honeywell, many of our manufacturing positions start at $28 per hour and do not require a four-year bachelor’s degree, eliminating the burden of college debt and enabling young people to enter the workforce quickly.
The demand for skilled workers to fill manufacturing jobs is growing. With nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs projected to be needed over the next decade, nearly two million are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap.
Congratulations to our scholarship recipients and all the 2019 grads!
