KCNSC's Matt Mohler wins Ingram's Magazine Local Hero Award
Every year Ingram’s Magazine selects Local Heroes and Corporate Heroes for their work in the community. The KCNSC was proud to be honored with the Corporate Citizenship Award in 2023, and this year we are equally proud to acknowledge Matt Mohler, Technical Manager, as a Local Hero. Ingram’s defines Local Heroes as “deserving philanthropic individuals making a positive difference for people in the Greater KC area.” Matt is an example of the values we hold at the KCNSC with his impressive work volunteering in our community.
Matt is a native Kansas Citian and attended college at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) graduating with a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering. His engagement in the community started prior to him joining KCNSC however, it was KCNSC’s commitment to the community that drew him to applying.
“When I was in college, I volunteered at a FIRST Robotics Competition event in Kansas City. It was the first year the region introduced a ‘Corporate Volunteer of the Year’ award, and KCNSC was the recipient. Prior to that recognition, I had never even heard of the KCNSC. The event organizers invited everyone who worked for the company to come down to the field during the awards ceremony. I was amazed at how many people filled the field. So many that they didn’t all fit! In that moment, the only thought running through my head was, ‘Wow, that’s a company that actually cares about supporting its community.’”
In high school, Matt’s engagement with FIRST Robotics radically changed his career trajectory and led him to being invested in helping other students engage in the program. “I look for opportunities where I can have meaningful conversations and experiences with students that will increase their awareness of what their future could look like.”
Matt has found a professional path at KCNSC and in it, a company that supports his engagement in the community. “I have always felt empowered and encouraged by my managers and peers at KCNSC to engage in volunteer opportunities. The 40 hours of paid community service is a huge benefit that encourages employees to think outside their day-to-day responsibilities and remember we aren’t just around the community, but in the community. It is incredibly rewarding to go to events with numerous volunteers and see so many co-workers there. It creates a genuine unity of purpose with my peers.” Matt said.
“Matt was one of the first KCNSC volunteers I met when I started my role overseeing KCNSC’s Community Initiative, and no surprise, I met him at a community event.” said Anne Einig, Brand and Community Relations Manager. “He is so energized by helping students see the possibilities for their future and equally energized by engaging his co-workers in the work of community building. He is a fabulous KCNSC representative and a great resource for our external KCNSC philanthropy.”
Please join us in celebrating this Ingram’s Local Hero and pass along congratulations to Matt Mohler.
