Kansas and Missouri students to compete in National Science Bowl® Regional Tournament
Kansas City National Security Campus, managed by Honeywell FM&T, advocates for students to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Manufacturing (STEMM) early in life. The annual National Science Bowl® (NSB), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, is a competition to ignite and inspire the future of STEMM in our community.
The 37th Annual Kansas and Missouri Regional Tournament will be held March 6-7. Dozens of high school and middle school students representing 13 teams will compete for a spot at the NSB in Washington, D.C., at the end of April.
“These students are so knowledgeable and fun. It is so much more competitive than people imagine,” said Jeremiah Gantt, Science Bowl volunteer.
The Kansas middle school competition will begin March 6 at 1 p.m. at Metropolitan Community College (MCC) Longview Campus in Lee’s Summit. Teams of four students will compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer competition with questions across every discipline of science. The winners of the qualifying rounds will meet in a final head-to-head match to determine the 2026 Regional Champion. The Kansas and Missouri high school competitions will begin March 7 at 9:15 a.m. at MCC, using the same format.
Each year, more than 15,000 students across the nation compete for the opportunity to represent their school at the NSB, which is the largest and most prestigious science competition in the country. The top 12 national teams will receive cash prizes for their school’s math and science departments and bragging rights for the following year.
“The Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl brings the most remarkable and brightest students together for an intense competition in a wide range of science disciplines,” said Lillian Cooper, regional Chair for the Western Missouri and Kansas Science Bowl competition. “This long-standing competition furthers our mission to support STEMM education in our communities through grants, employee mentors and volunteers.
Sponsors of the 2026 Kansas and Missouri Science Bowl include the U.S. Department of Energy and the Kansas City National Security Campus managed by Honeywell FM&T.
