Gordon-Hagerty Praises Workforce's Adaptability, Resilience During KCNSC Visit

Lisa E. Gordon-Hagerty, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Administrator and the Department of Energy’s Under Secretary for Nuclear Security, visited the KCNSC on October 13, along with Dr. Charles Verdon, the NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs. They took part in facility tours, hearing updates from leadership and addressing the workforce in a Town Hall meeting.

In her remarks during the virtual meeting, Gordon-Hagerty celebrated the 20-year anniversary of the NNSA and reiterated the importance of the continued mission of the entire nuclear enterprise. She also highlighted the outstanding response and performance of the KCNSC workforce throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She acknowledged the maintained focus on the mission despite having to navigate such uncertain times, all while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the workforce.

“The KCNSC workforce has remained steadfast in their commitment to the mission and it is clear that there is a strong spirit of trust and collaboration between KCNSC and the Kansas City Field Office,” Gordon-Hagerty said. “This strong partnership and collaboration of all our organizations supported our need to be agile in a time of crisis.”

Gordon-Hagerty took extra time to recognize the continued efforts of KCNSC’s 5,000 employees throughout her visit and consistently expressed her admiration for what she considers the enterprise’s most valued asset.

“NNSA has risen to every challenge and every occasion presented to us,” Gordon-Hagerty said in the final minutes of her remarks of the Town Hall. “None of these efforts would be possible without our great workforce. Indeed, our greatest asset is our people.”
