Employees Donate Nearly 6,000 Meals to Harvesters

With changes to in-person community plans and events, many non-profits have felt the financial pain of COVID-19. This decline in revenue and individual giving has forced many nonprofits to limit services to their clients. Understanding how important basic needs are during times like these, the Kansas City National Security Campus’ (KCNSC) Women’s Council decided they wanted to help, in any way possible.

The Women’s Council hosted a virtual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit Harvesters by asking co-workers to donate money to help hungry families. Employees have a strong relationship with Harvesters, in the past, they’ve enjoyed working with Harvesters to help pack back-snacks filled with food for insecure school-aged children.

“ We wanted to do something this November to help our community this year,” Karen West, Small Business Program Manager and event organizer stated.

Harvesters was thrilled to report that The Women’s Council virtual event did indeed help. Their support helped to provide nearly 6,000 meals to local families, children and seniors this holiday season.

Harvesters continues to distribute record amounts of food. Since mid-March, Harvesters has distributed more than 49 million pounds of food, over 10 million pounds more than the same time last year. To learn more about their ongoing needs, please visit https://www.harvesters.org/.
